A few weeks ago, I noticed a prominent oil leak coming from the Daewoo. At first, I thought it was just the valve cover gasket. After further inspection it turned out to be blow-by out the oil cap, which meant worn rings and an eventual rebuild. Since I no longer have Shannon's car to rely on as a backup, I needed to do something fast. I was able to sell the Daewoo and buy a 1988 Audi 90 from a coworker, all in the same day. This car is very nice and what's even better is that I was able to buy it for less than what I sold the Daewoo for. The guy at work sits over the wall from me and we always talk cars. I remember when he picked this Audi up 1-1/2 years ago and know everything he has done to it. There are still some little cosmetic things I want to fix up, mostly on the interior, but it runs great. Tonight it will be getting a new thermostat, which will give me a bit more heat and I have some new front corner lights on the way I found on eBay. I am going to go through and replace all the hoses and the right tie-rod soon. This weekend I'm going to pull the driver seat and figure out why it likes to slip out of position sometimes and see what's going on with the cruise control. The seat looks like an easy fix but I may need to find some electrical and vacuum diagrams for the cruise.
I used to have a 1996 VW Passat, which is identical to the Audi B4. That car was a diesel that I converted to run on recycled vegetable oil. This 90 model is very similar but has a 5 cylinder gas engine. It has a manual transmission (which I love), sunroof, power windows, and leather interior. The kids love having a roomy backseat and the four doors makes it so much easier to get Chooj in and out. Because this car is red and quick, Chooj has already named it "Lightning McQueen." Now that I no longer have to spend my evenings and weekends working on a farm, this car is going to be my project. I'm going to slowly restore it and add a few sporty modifications along the way.
